The Complete Pawsettle Guide

Everything you need to know about using Pawsettle, from signing up to making the most of every feature.

This guide covers every part of Pawsettle in detail. Whether you have just signed up or you have been using the platform for a while, you will find step by step instructions, tips and answers here. The guide is organised in the order most people use the product, but each section stands on its own if you are looking for something specific. You will get the most out of it if you have your account open alongside it.

New to Pawsettle? Start with a free account at app.pawsettle.co.uk. No payment details required.

Getting Started

Pawsettle is free to join and takes less than a minute to set up. Go to app.pawsettle.co.uk and create your account using your email address. You can sign up with a password or use a magic link sent to your inbox. No payment details are required at signup.

What you get for free

Every Pawsettle account starts on the free tier. This gives you access to the pet profile builder, the Pet Parenting Agreement builder, and the Petnup builder. You can save your answers, come back to them at any time, and print a summary of your completed agreement or petnup. Nothing is locked behind a paywall to get started.

When to upgrade

If you want a professionally formatted PDF of your agreement or petnup, you can either purchase a one time download for £10 per document, or upgrade to Plus for £4 per month. Plus also unlocks the Caregiver Evidence Log, Document Vault, Pet Health Timeline, Review Schedule, version history and the full collaborator system. You can upgrade at any time from your account page.

Collaborators

If you have been invited to Pawsettle as a collaborator by a pet owner, you do not sign up through the main signup page. You join through your invitation link and sign in using the collaborator sign in option on the sign in page. See the collaborator section of this guide for more detail.

Your Account

Your account page is accessible from the sidebar at any time. From here you can update your email address and password, manage your subscription, view your billing history, and delete your account if you need to.

Managing your subscription

If you are on Plus, your subscription details are shown on the account page. You can switch between monthly and annual billing, cancel your subscription, and manage storage add ons. Cancelling your subscription does not delete your data. Your agreements, petnups, logs and documents remain accessible on the free tier.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from the account page. Deleting your account permanently removes all your data from Pawsettle including your pet profiles, agreements, petnups, caregiver log entries and stored documents. This cannot be undone. If you share a pet with a collaborator, deleting your account will also remove their access.

Pet Profiles

Pet profiles are the foundation of everything in Pawsettle. Before you create an agreement or petnup, set up a profile for your pet. The information you add here flows automatically into every document you create, so you only need to enter it once.

Creating a pet profile

Go to My Pets in the sidebar and select Add a pet. You will be asked for your pet's name, species, breed, date of birth, colour and gender. You can also add their microchip number, microchip database, whether they are neutered, and their weight. Fill in as much as you can. The more detail you add, the more complete your agreements and documents will be.

Vet and insurance details

Add your vet's name, address and phone number, and your insurance provider and policy number if you have them. These details appear in your agreements and are accessible to any collaborators you invite with appropriate access.

Health and care information

The pet profile includes fields for health conditions, current medication, dietary requirements and behavioural notes. Keep these up to date. They feed into the Pet Health Timeline and are visible to vets and co carers you invite.

Emergency contacts

Add an emergency contact name and phone number to the pet profile. This is separate from the collaborator system and is included in the care sheet that can be shared with anyone caring for your pet.

Multiple pets

You can add more than one pet to your account. Each pet has its own profile, its own agreements and petnups, and its own collaborators. On Plus, additional pets are £1 per month or £10 per year each.

Editing and deleting a pet profile

You can edit a pet profile at any time from the My Pets page. Changes to the profile do not automatically update existing completed agreements, but they will be reflected in any new documents you generate. If you delete a pet profile, all associated agreements, petnups, log entries and documents are permanently deleted.

Pet Parenting Agreement

A Pet Parenting Agreement is a written record of how a shared pet will be cared for. It is intended for couples who are separating, or for anyone who shares a pet and wants a clear documented arrangement. It is not a legal contract and cannot be enforced by a court, but it carries evidential weight and gives both parties a clear reference point. Read more about what makes a pet parenting agreement hold up.

Starting the builder

Go to Agreements in the sidebar and select Create a new agreement. If you have a pet profile set up, select the pet the agreement is for and your answers will be pre populated where possible. If you have not set up a pet profile yet, you will be prompted to do so first.

The builder steps

The agreement builder is divided into eight guided steps. You move through them one at a time and can go back to any previous step before generating your document. The steps cover: basic pet information, primary carer and living arrangements, care schedule and routines, vet and medical decisions, financial responsibilities, emergency arrangements, communication between carers, and review preferences. Answer every question as fully as you can. Sections where you have not provided meaningful answers will not appear in the generated document.

Generating your document

Once you have completed all eight steps, Pawsettle validates your answers and flags anything that looks incomplete. You can then generate your document. The generated agreement is displayed on screen with full formatting, a clickable table of contents and a footer disclaimer. Free users can print a summary. Plus users and one time purchasers can download a formatted PDF.

Regenerating your document

You are allowed one regeneration per agreement. If you want to make changes after generating, go back into the builder, update your answers, and regenerate. The original version is saved in your version history before the new one is created.

Setting a review interval

At the end of the builder you are asked how often you want to review your agreement. Choose from three, six, twelve, eighteen or twenty four months, or set a custom interval. Pawsettle will send you email reminders when your review is due. This is a Plus feature. Free users can still set a preference but will not receive reminders.

Tips

Be as specific as possible when answering questions about care schedules and financial responsibilities. Vague answers produce vague documents. If something does not apply to your situation, skip it and the section will be omitted from the document. You can always come back and update your answers as circumstances change.

Petnup

A Petnup is for couples who are still together and want to put a plan in place for their pet before anything goes wrong. It covers the same areas as a Pet Parenting Agreement but from a forward looking perspective: how you will share costs, who is responsible for what, and what would happen if your circumstances changed. Read our full guide on how to write a petnup in the UK.

Starting the petnup builder

Go to Petnups in the sidebar and select Create a new petnup. As with the agreement builder, select your pet and your profile information will be pre populated. The petnup builder follows the same eight step structure as the agreement builder, with additional questions specific to couples living together: work travel cover, joint holiday arrangements, insurance renewal responsibility, monthly budget and budget handling, receipt tracking, microchip registration responsibilities, and what happens if you have children or your circumstances change significantly.

Tone

The petnup builder is deliberately warm and forward looking in its tone. You are planning for your pet's future together, not preparing for a worst case. Answer the questions as a couple where possible.

Generating and reviewing your petnup

The generation, regeneration and review process for petnups is identical to agreements. See the Pet Parenting Agreement section above for full details.

Summary Print

All Pawsettle users, including free accounts, can print a summary of their completed agreement or petnup. The summary covers all the key decisions made in the builder and is formatted for printing.

How to print your summary

Once your agreement or petnup has been generated, open it from the Agreements or Petnups page in the sidebar. Use your browser's print function, or look for the print option on the document page. The summary is formatted with print styles so it renders cleanly on paper without navigation, sidebars or other on screen elements.

What the summary includes

The summary includes all sections where you provided meaningful answers. Sections you skipped or left blank are omitted. It includes the pet's name, the document type, the date it was generated, and a footer disclaimer noting that the document is not a legally binding contract.

One time PDF purchase

If you do not want a recurring subscription but need a professionally formatted PDF of your agreement or petnup, you can purchase a single document download for £10. This is a one time payment per document, not per account.

How to purchase

Complete the agreement or petnup builder and generate your document. On the document page you will see a option to purchase the formatted PDF. Clicking this takes you to a secure Stripe checkout. Once payment is confirmed, your PDF is available to download immediately from the document page.

What you get

The formatted PDF includes the Pawsettle header with your pet's name and the document date, a clickable table of contents, clearly structured and formatted sections, and a footer disclaimer. It is the same PDF format that Plus users receive.

Purchasing for multiple documents

The one time purchase applies to a single agreement or petnup. If you have more than one document and want PDFs of each, you purchase them separately. If you think you will need PDFs regularly, Plus is more cost effective.

Caregiver Evidence Log

The Caregiver Evidence Log is a Plus feature that lets you build a detailed, timestamped record of your involvement in your pet's care. Every entry records the date, time, activity type and any notes you add. Over time your log becomes a clear and credible picture of your day to day care. If a dispute ever goes to a solicitor or mediator, your log is timestamped evidence that is difficult to challenge. Read about the Fi v Do ruling to understand why this kind of record matters, and our guide on how to prove you are the primary carer for a pet.

Adding a log entry

Go to Caregiver Log in the sidebar. You can add an entry quickly using the quick add panel on the log list page, or go to the full add entry page for more detail. Each entry requires an activity type and a date. You can also add a location, duration in minutes, and any notes. Be as specific as possible with your notes. Vague entries are less useful as evidence than detailed ones.

Activity types

Pawsettle organises log entries by activity type. The available types include: walk, feeding, vet visit, medication, grooming, training, play, overnight stay, and general care. Each type has its own icon in the log view. Choose the type that most accurately describes the entry.

Viewing your log

Your log entries are displayed in chronological order with the most recent first. If you have more than one pet, you can view a combined log of all pets or filter by individual pet using the per pet tabs. Summary stats at the top of the log show your entries this month, total hours of care logged, and your current streak.

Streak tracking

Pawsettle tracks how many consecutive days you have logged at least one entry. Your current streak is shown on the log page. Consistent logging strengthens the evidential value of your record, so the streak is designed to encourage a daily habit.

Generating a PDF report

You can generate a PDF report of your caregiver log at any time from the log page. The report includes all your entries in a formatted layout with a disclaimer. It is suitable for sharing with a solicitor, mediator or family member. You can also export your log as a CSV file if you need the raw data.

Collaborators and the log

Co carers and household members you invite can add their own log entries. Their entries appear in your log alongside yours, attributed to them. This gives you a complete picture of all care provided across everyone involved with your pet.

Expense Log

The Expense Log is a Plus feature that gives you and your co carer a shared, neutral record of every cost associated with your pet. It is designed to remove financial ambiguity from shared pet arrangements without involving any money movement or payment processing.

Adding an expense entry

Go to Expense Log in the sidebar. Use the quick add panel to log an entry immediately: select the pet, choose a category, enter the amount, add a description and optionally upload a receipt. Categories available are: vet, food, insurance, grooming, medication, boarding and other. Each entry is timestamped automatically.

Uploading receipts

Each expense entry supports an optional receipt upload. Accepted formats are JPEG, PNG and PDF. The receipt is stored securely alongside the entry and can be viewed at any time by anyone with access to the log. Uploading a receipt alongside a claimed expense removes any possibility of dispute about the amount or the nature of the cost.

Who can log expenses

The owner and any co carer collaborators can add expense entries. Household member collaborators can view the log but cannot add entries. Vet and emergency contacts have no access to the expense log. Each entry is attributed to the person who logged it, so the record is always clear about who claimed what.

Per party summary

The expense log shows a summary of total spend per party over any selected period. This gives both the owner and the co carer a clear picture of financial contributions without requiring any negotiation or manual calculation.

Exporting the log

You can generate a formatted PDF report of the expense log at any time. The report includes all entries, the per party summary totals, and a disclaimer noting that the log is a self reported record and not a legally binding financial statement. You can also export the raw data as a CSV file.

Document Vault

The Document Vault is a Plus feature that gives you secure storage for all your pet's important records. Insurance documents, vaccination certificates, vet correspondence, microchip registration, adoption papers: anything you need to keep safe and accessible.

Uploading a document

Go to Document Vault in the sidebar and select Upload document. Give the document a name and choose the document type from the available categories. You can tag the document to a specific pet or mark it as applying to all your pets. Add any notes that would help you or someone else understand what the document contains.

Expiry dates and reminders

Many pet documents have expiry dates: insurance policies, vaccinations, health certificates. When you upload a document, you can add an expiry date. Pawsettle will send you email reminders as the date approaches. Expiry badges on the document list give you an at a glance status: grey for documents expiring in more than sixty days, amber for within sixty days, red for within fourteen days, and red for already expired. You can disable reminders for individual documents if you do not need them.

Storage limits

Plus accounts include 500MB of document storage. If you need more, you can add a 500MB storage add on for £2 per month or a 2GB add on for £5 per month from your account page. Your current storage usage is shown in the Document Vault.

Collaborator access

Co carers, household members, vets and emergency contacts can all view your Document Vault in read only mode. They cannot upload, edit or delete documents. This makes it easy to give a vet or emergency contact access to the documents they might need without giving them any ability to make changes.

Pet Health Timeline

The Pet Health Timeline is a Plus feature that pulls together your pet's health history into a single visual chronological record. It draws from three sources: your Caregiver Log, your Document Vault, and any manual health events you add directly to the timeline.

Viewing the timeline

Go to Pet Health in the sidebar. If you have more than one pet, use the per pet tabs to switch between them or view a combined timeline. Each event on the timeline shows the date, event type and a summary. Click any event to see the full detail.

Adding a health event

You can add a health event directly to the timeline using the inline form on the Pet Health page. Add the date, event type, a title and a description. You can also link the event to a document in your vault, for example attaching a vet report to a health event entry.

Health summary card

At the top of the Pet Health page a summary card shows your pet's last vet visit, current medication, weight, and the next document expiry date from your vault. This gives you a quick overview without scrolling through the full timeline.

Generating a health summary PDF

You can generate a PDF of your pet's health summary from the Pet Health page. This is useful for sharing with a new vet, a pet sitter, or anyone who needs a quick overview of your pet's health history.

Collaborator access

Co carers, household members and vets can view the Pet Health Timeline. They cannot add or edit events. Vets in particular find this useful when they need to understand a pet's history quickly.

Review Schedule

The Review Schedule is a Plus feature that helps you keep your agreements and petnups current. Life changes, and a good arrangement today might need updating in a year. Setting a review interval means you will never forget to revisit what you agreed.

Setting a review interval

At the end of the agreement or petnup builder, you are asked how often you want to review the document. Choose from three, six, twelve, eighteen or twenty four months, or enter a custom number of months. This sets your review due date from the point of generation.

Viewing your review schedule

Go to Review Schedule in the sidebar to see all your agreements and petnups with their review due dates. Each document shows a countdown and a horizontal progress bar indicating how far through the current review period you are. Documents that are overdue show an amber border. Documents due soon show a persimmon border.

Email reminders

Pawsettle sends you email reminders at thirty days before your review is due, seven days before, and on the day itself. These are sent automatically and do not require any action from you. If you review and regenerate your document before the due date, the schedule resets from the new generation date.

Updating after a review

When you review your arrangement, go back into the builder, update any answers that have changed, and regenerate. The previous version is saved in your version history before the new document is created. Your review schedule resets automatically.

Version History

Version history is a Plus feature that saves a copy of your agreement or petnup every time it is updated. You always have a full record of how your arrangements have evolved over time.

Viewing version history

On any agreement or petnup page, find the version history section. Each saved version shows the date it was created, who made the change, and a summary of what changed. Click any version to view it in full.

Comparing versions

You can compare any two versions of a document using the View diff option. Changes are shown with word level highlighting: removed content in red and added content in green. This makes it easy to see exactly what changed between any two versions.

Restoring a previous version

If you want to go back to an earlier version of your agreement or petnup, you can restore it from the version history. The current version is saved before the restore happens, so you never lose anything permanently.

Shared Document Access

Shared document access is a Plus feature that lets you send a secure link to your agreement or petnup to the other person involved. They do not need a Pawsettle account to view it.

Sharing a document

On any generated agreement or petnup page, find the Share button. Pawsettle generates a unique secure access token and sends an email to the address you specify via your Resend integration. The recipient receives a link that opens the document directly in their browser with no login required.

Viewing status

The share status is shown on your agreement or petnup page. You can see whether the link has been viewed and when it was first opened. Each document has its own share link. If you regenerate the document, you will need to share the new version separately.

Security

Each share link is unique and tied to a specific document. Links do not expire automatically but access can be reviewed from your agreement page. The recipient cannot edit the document, propose changes, or access any other part of your Pawsettle account.

Collaborator System

The collaborator system is a Plus feature that lets you invite people into your pet's care with clearly defined roles. Each person you invite gets access to exactly what their role permits, nothing more. Collaborators do not need a Plus subscription of their own.

The four roles

There are four collaborator roles. Each role grants a specific set of permissions:

Co carer

View agreements and petnups. Propose changes to agreements, subject to owner approval. Add and view caregiver log entries. View the pet health timeline. View the document vault in read only mode. View the care sheet and emergency info.

Household member

Add and view caregiver log entries. View the pet health timeline. View the document vault in read only mode. View the care sheet and emergency info.

Vet

View caregiver log entries. View the pet health timeline. View the document vault in read only mode. View the care sheet and emergency info.

Emergency contact

View the care sheet and emergency info. View the document vault in read only mode.

Inviting a collaborator

Go to the pet detail page for the relevant pet and find the collaborators section. Enter the person's name, email address and select their role. Pawsettle sends them an invitation email with a unique link. They can accept the invitation with an existing Pawsettle account or create one. Vets and emergency contacts can accept without creating an account at all and receive a secure viewing link instead.

Managing collaborators

From the pet detail page you can see all collaborators for that pet, their role, and their status. You can resend an invitation to anyone who has not yet accepted, and you can remove a collaborator at any time. Removing a collaborator immediately revokes their access.

Agreement proposals

Co carers can propose changes to an agreement through Pawsettle. They enter proposal mode in the agreement builder, make their suggested changes, and submit. You receive an email notification and a pending review banner appears on your agreement page. You can review the proposed changes with word level highlighting, and approve or reject the proposal. If approved, the document is regenerated and the previous version is saved to version history. Both parties are notified of the outcome. Read our guide on how to update a pet parenting agreement.

Using Pawsettle as a Collaborator

If you have been invited to Pawsettle as a collaborator, your experience is slightly different from a primary account holder. This section explains how to get started and what you can do.

Accepting your invitation

You will receive an invitation email from Pawsettle on behalf of the pet owner. Click the link in the email to accept. If you already have a Pawsettle account, you will be asked to sign in. If not, you can create one. Vets and emergency contacts can accept without creating an account and will receive a secure link for direct access instead.

Signing in as a collaborator

Once you have accepted your invitation, sign in at app.pawsettle.co.uk using the collaborator sign in option on the sign in page. Your collaborator account is separate from a primary Pawsettle account. Do not use the main sign in form as it will not recognise your account type correctly.

Your collaborator dashboard

When you sign in, you land on your collaborator dashboard. This shows all the pets you have been invited to collaborate on. Each pet shows the features available to you based on your role. Everything you can access is visible here. Use the dashboard as your starting point for all activity.

Adding log entries as a collaborator

If your role is co carer or household member, you can add caregiver log entries directly from your collaborator dashboard. Your entries are attributed to you and appear on the pet owner's dashboard alongside their own entries. You are contributing to a shared record.

Proposing changes as a co carer

If your role is co carer, you can propose changes to the shared agreement from your collaborator dashboard. Select the agreement, enter proposal mode, make your suggested changes and submit. The owner will be notified and will review your proposal. You will be notified when they approve or reject it.

If you have your own pet

Your collaborator account is designed for managing pets you care for on behalf of someone else. If you have a pet of your own and want to use Pawsettle as a primary user, you will need a separate primary account. Visit pawsettle.co.uk to find out what a full Pawsettle account can do for you.

Troubleshooting

Most issues with Pawsettle can be resolved quickly. Here are the most common problems and how to fix them.

I cannot sign in

Make sure you are using the correct sign in page for your account type. Primary users sign in at the main sign in page. Collaborators must use the collaborator sign in option. If you have forgotten your password, use the forgot password link on the sign in page to receive a reset email. If you used a magic link to sign up, use the magic link option rather than a password.

My invitation link is not working

Invitation links are unique and single use. If your link is not working, ask the pet owner to resend the invitation from their pet detail page. If you have already accepted the invitation, sign in using the collaborator sign in option rather than clicking the link again.

My document did not generate correctly

If your generated agreement or petnup looks incomplete, check that you answered the questions in each step of the builder as fully as possible. Sections where no meaningful answer was provided are omitted from the document. You have one regeneration available per document. Go back into the builder, review your answers, and regenerate.

My PDF download is not working

If your PDF is not downloading after purchase, first refresh the document page. If the issue persists, check your browser is not blocking downloads. Try a different browser if needed. If the problem continues, contact us at hello@pawsettle.co.uk with your account email and the name of the document.

I cannot see a collaborator I invited

Check the pet detail page for the relevant pet and look at the collaborators section. If the invitation shows as pending, the person has not yet accepted. Use the resend invitation button to send them a fresh link. If the invitation is not showing at all, try adding it again.

My storage is showing as full

Your Plus account includes 500MB of document storage. If you have reached the limit, you can add a storage upgrade from your account page: 500MB for £2 per month or 2GB for £5 per month. You can also free up space by deleting documents you no longer need from the Document Vault.

I am not receiving email reminders

Check your spam or junk folder first. Pawsettle sends emails from hello@pawsettle.co.uk. Add this address to your contacts to make sure future emails arrive in your inbox. If you are on the free tier, review reminders are a Plus feature and will not be sent until you upgrade.
